The general was commander-in-chief of the Swiss army during the Second World War from 1939-1945. (See his statue at the beginning of this walking route). Les Teintureries. Built for the dye works company Société Teinturerie Lyonnaise then the Teinturerie de Morat et Lyonnaise Réunies, in 1997 the building was transformed into a theatre for teaching and experimentation. With the encouragement of René Gonzalez, then director of the Théâtre de Vidy, who was convinced of the need for such an establishment, it was created by the directors and actors François Landolt and Jean-Philippe Guerlais, who called it the "Théâtre des Teintureries" or Dye Works Theatre. A victim of its success, the theatre was moved to Sébeillon two years later. The building has also been home to a modern art museum for the Fondation Asher Edelmann, which exhibited its founder's collection of over 1,000 artworks. Today the building contains offices.
